Pinstalk Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 October 2026
Pinstalk is a browser extension that shows statistics on Pinterest pins, helps you research keywords, and lets you organise and export what you see. It is an independent tool and is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Pinterest.
The short version
- Pinstalk has no servers. Everything it collects stays inside your browser, in the extension's local storage on your device.
- Pinstalk never sends your data to the developer or to any third party. There is no analytics, no tracking, no advertising SDK.
- The only network requests Pinstalk makes go to Pinterest's own domains (
pinterest.comand its country domains,pinimg.com,trends.pinterest.com, andapi.pinterest.comif you add your own API token), using the Pinterest session already signed in to your browser.
What Pinstalk stores on your device
| Data | Why | Where | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Public pin, board and creator information you scroll past on Pinterest (titles, descriptions, image URLs, save/repin/comment counts, creation dates, creator usernames, board names, link domains) | To show stat cards, sort and filter feeds, build keyword studies, and export CSV files you ask for | chrome.storage.local on your device | 7 days by default (configurable 1 day–1 year); bookmarked pins until you remove them; capped at about 6 000 pins |
| Pinterest search suggestions and Pinterest Trends results for keywords you research | To show keyword ideas, search volume, growth and audience information | chrome.storage.local | 24 hours (cache), research results up to 6 hours |
| Your settings and the notes, folders and tags you add to bookmarked pins | To remember your preferences and your swipe file | chrome.storage.local | Until you change or delete them |
| Optional: a Pinterest API access token you choose to paste into Settings → Research | Only to call Pinterest's official Trends API on your behalf | chrome.storage.local | Until you remove it |
You can delete everything at any time: Settings → Data → Delete all data, or by removing the extension.
What Pinstalk does not do
- It does not read, store or transmit your Pinterest password, cookies or private messages.
- It does not act on your Pinterest account: it never saves, follows, comments, posts or sends messages for you.
- It does not collect browsing history outside Pinterest pages, and it does not run on any website other than Pinterest.
- It does not sell, share, or transfer any data, and it does not use data for advertising or credit purposes.
Network requests, in detail
Pinstalk reads the same page data Pinterest sends to your browser and, when you turn on detailed stats, asks Pinterest's page API for the details of pins visible on your screen (throttled, cached for one hour). Keyword research uses Pinterest's search-suggestion endpoints. Search-volume data comes either from trends.pinterest.com using your signed-in session (read-only, cached 24 hours, at most 150 requests per hour) or, if you choose the official API in Settings, from api.pinterest.com with your own token. Downloads fetch media files from pinimg.com and save them through Chrome's download manager. No request ever includes anything other than what Pinterest itself would receive from your browser.
Permissions
- storage / unlimitedStorage – keep collected pins, studies and settings on your device.
- downloads – save images, videos and CSV/ZIP exports to your Downloads folder when you click a download button.
- Access to pinterest.* and pinimg.com – the extension only runs on Pinterest pages and only fetches Pinterest content.
Children
Pinstalk is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at the same address with an updated date.
